Conqueror PvP Guide-Add comments, tips and i will update as we go.
TABLE OF CONTENTS 1. PvP Breakdown - The Good, The Bad, and The Spec 2. Hostile Spells Break Down (coming soon) 3. Friendly Spells Break Down (coming soon) 1. PVP Breakdown: The Good, The Bad, and The Spec The Good 1. You are basically a mage. All your damage comes from spells and you have CC (crowd control) to keep people at a safe distance so you can nuke them down. By Level 80, you should have 2 instance DD (direct damage) spells, a root, a knock back, and a stun. 2. Storm Chains - will be your bread and butter for early (and late) PvPing. It is a 14 sec root. Most likely the root will break on first damage, but when you get lucky and it doesn't break, it means certain death for the other player. And it has a very fast 30 sec cooldown, but (what feels like forever) a 2 sec cast time 3. Stamina - you have no combos or spells which drain your stamina. So all of your stamina can be devoted to sprinting after your victims or away to fight another day. 4. Shock and Hellfire Stream - Instant DD spells. Shock is on an 8 sec cooldown (6 sec with feats) and Hellfire is on a 2 sec cooldown (can only be an instant with feats) These two spells are so important because of the mobility factor. As any cloth wearer you want to do the most damage while staying away from your enemy. These two spells allow you to do this while your CCs are on cooldown. Also if you need to chase after a victim, you don't need to stop and cast. These spells will burn them down while your running after him. 5. Fires of Gehenna or Shockstrike - These two spells are your Big Nukes which inflict the most damage. Both of them have a 2-2.5 sec cast time and you use either one or the other, never both. This depends completely on your Feat spec which I will get to later. These two spells are always reliable because they both have a 0 sec cooldown 6. Fiery Torment - This is your best high-level PvP spell. It is a 5.5 sec stun (at level 75) and is the key to controlling your victims for the kill. It has a 1 sec cast time. Unfortunately when fighting 1v1s you'll probably only be able to caste one stun because the cooldown is so long. The Bad 1. Demon Pet - More of a liability than anything else. There are two effects the pet has. It is an over sized DOT, which lacks in damage. And it gives a group buff which is different depending on your level. The first, and most important, reason I hate the pet, is because it breaks Storm Chains! It continually fires at your target (unless you are quick at juggling small pet command buttons) and with its very small damage, it breaks one of your best spells. The second reasons this pet sucks is because it gives away your hiding spot. It is very important for a demonologist to have the ability to surprise someone or to run and hide. This is because of the next bad thing about this class... 2. Melee Survivability - Of which you have none. Most of your damage is going to come from your Nukes and you are a sitting duck while you cast them. Charge, knock back, or stun will kill you! Almost every melee class has one or more of these abilities, so you have to do everything in your power never to let melee classes near you. To give you an example, my friend plays an HoX. He has a two combo move (firelance) which consistently gives him a 1300 damage melee attack. My same-level Demologist has only 1038 health. 3. Overall Damage Output - The demonologist's damage doesn't match up toe to toe with other casting/ranged classes. Rangers out damage us. PoM and ToS seem to have equal damage but have heals to out last the nuke spamming fight. 4. To Many Buffs - The demonologist has anywhere from 7-10 buffs to cast before going into battle. All of them have been made to be an hour long, but only a select few significantly help the demonologist in PvP 5. Waves of Flame - Don't kill yourself trying to use this spell in PvP. It is a damage spell which shoots out only 5 meters in front of you, in a cone shape. I believe the developers want us to use this spell when we are in melee range, but it is a horrible idea. First of all, melee classes can just run out of the very small radius of the 5 meter flame. Also the second any melee class gets with in 5 meters of you, you will be knocked down or stunned which = dead And, The Spec There are two trees you can go up. The Conflagration tree (fire) which is designed more for PvE, The Havoc tree (lightening) which was designed more for PvP. Since I don't give a rat's ass about PvE, I'll only be talking about the best parts of the ... Havoc Tree Level 20 Rapid Recharge (Improve spell Feat) - Lowers Shock from an 8 to a 6 sec cooldown Level 30 Agonizing Jolt (New Spell Feat) - This is a channeling Movement reduction (50%) and a high damage DOT, which casts for 10.2 secs. It has a 30 sec cooldown. This ability is great for finishing off people as they run away. Great 10 sec non-removable snare for other party members to take advantage of, and it is great to use after Storm Chains fall. Level 50 Wicked Bolts (New Spell Feat) - Grants a swift casting lightening spell which flings back its target. This spell is ideal for PvP because of the low melee survivability. Level 60 Thunder Clap (New Spell Feat) - This spell does an electrical cone of damage in front of the demonologist. It also has the chance to fling someone aside. It works much the same way as Waves of Flame. And because I don't like the Wave of Flame spell, I'm hesitant to think Thunder Clap will be great. Although anything that will keep melee off of you, is a good thing! Level 70 Lore of Skelos (New Spell Feat) - This spell greatly increases the demonologist's damage, but it also increases the mana cost of all your spells. This spell has its obvious benefits. |
